Why Senate Ordered The Police To Leave Akwa Ibom State Assembly Premises

On Thursday, The Senate has instructed the Police to leave the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly premises.

They also asked the Police to stop denying The House of Assembly Members access to their chambers.

It has been an issue and today it came up for discussion on the floor of the Senate again. It was Senator Bassey Akpan that alerted the Senate on the ongoing situation in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Senator Bassey Akpan when speaking said that “the Security agents are still there and no legislator has been allowed in or out. We owe the people of Akwa Ibom this responsibility. it is not right. An injury to Akwa Ibom State is an injury to Nigeria.”

In contributing to the issues and as a way of telling the Senate to be careful, Senator Ahmad Kaita said “if the police vacate the premises, the legislators will go in there with their supporters and create fracas. The Police are only there to promote peace. Lets us, as a Senate, verify the facts of this issues before taking any action.”

Other Senators like Senator Bukola Saraki Senator Ike Ekwermadu, Senator Na’allah, and Senator Anyanwu also contributed.

At the end of the deliberation, the Senate resolved that the Police should leave the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly premises and to stop preventing the Legistlators from accessing their chambers.
