Just In: Mama Boko Haram Has Been Sentenced To Five Years Imprisonment.

Ms Aisha Wakil, quite popularly known as Mama Boko Haram has been sentenced to serve five years in prison for N71.4 million fraud by a High court in Maiduguri.
Ms Wakil was sentenced alongside two others identified as Tahiru Saidu Daura, and Prince Lawal Shoyode who are accomplices in the gruesome fraudulent activity.

The Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) secured the conviction of the outlaws on Tuesday 14, June 2022 at the High Court Sitting in Maiduguri.
Justice Aisha Kumaliya, the presiding judge of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri sentenced the defendants to five years imprisonment term without the option of fine.

Ms Wakil – Mama Boko Haram, was the chief executive officer (CEO), of a non-governmental organisation, Complete Care and Aid Foundation.
The convicts were alleged to have induced the execution of a supply contract for the Foundation and refused to pay after the contract was executed.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Aisha Alkali Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode, whilst being chief executive officer, programme manager and country director respectively of Complete Care and Aid Foundation (a non-governmental organisation), sometime in the year 2018 at Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court with intent to defraud, induced one Saleh Ahmed Said of Shuad General Enterprises Ltd to deliver to you 3,000 bags of beans worth N71,400,000, under the false pretence of executing a contract for the supply of same, which you made the said Saleh Ahmed, to believe that you had the capacity to pay the entire contract sum upon execution, which you knew to be false, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Sections 1(1) (b) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.”

The defendants pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges but the prosecution counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed during the course of the trial presented four witnesses and tendered several documents which were admitted and testified against the plea of the defendants.

Justice Kumaliya said that the prosecution council had proved his case against the defendants’ and consequently pronounced them guilty as charged.
