Election Update: Why Buba Galadima is arrested and its Political Implications
Buba Galadima the spokesman of the Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation is reported to have been arrested on Sunday evening by masked men.
Confirming the incident, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan said “He was accosted on the road and arrested”
The specifics of the arrest is yet to be known but fingers quickly pointed to the Department of State Service who have denied any involvement with the arrest of Buba Galadima.
However, Festus Keyamo the Buhari Campaign Organisation spokesperson had earlier called for the arrest of Buba Galadima accusing him of a plan to “release fake presidential result ahead of INEC, plans to mobilise hoodlums for choreographed protests”.
He further said “Our information is that they aim to create crises and confusion that will lead to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar claiming victory in a day or two from today ahead of the official announcement of the results by INEC”.
“Then, what would follow will be some carefully choreographed protests by pockets of hoodlums in some parts of the country. The ultimate aim is to curry the sympathy of our foreign friends and push us to the Venezuela situation”.
Buba Galadima was initially part of the All Progressive Congress (APC) before he decamped and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Many people including the Peoples Democratic Party had called for the release of Buba Galadima immediately so as not to plunge the country in chaos.
The sad reality is that the details of Buba Galadima’s arrest is yet unknown. They are specilations that the arrest of Buba Galadima is hinged on part of the statements issued by Festus Keyamo siting that Buba Galadima had recorded a small video declaring Atiku Abubakar as the winner of the 2019 Presidential election.

“In fact, Alhaji Buba Galadima, an official spokesperson for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has made a short video announcing PDP as the ‘winner’ of the Presidential Election.
“As an official spokesperson, he is clearly acting on behalf of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and on his instruction. We, therefore call for the immediate arrest, interrogation and prosecution of Alhaji Buba Galadima in this regard. The world is watching and waiting on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to say something on the video by Alhaji Buba Galadima.”
From indications, arresting Buba Galadima by some sampled opinions on social media has been described as a bad idea if he was truly arrested based on the information presented by festus keyamo the spokesperson of the APC.
