Rev’d King And Other Nigerian Pastors who Have Been To Prison

Nigeria is no doubt one of the most religious countries in the world. Churches have grown in numbers since the 1980s and a lot of acclaimed prophets have emerged to do what was done in Biblical times. Some of the churches now attract people from different parts of the world and they are now one of the major sources of tourism in the country. The prophets who claim their powers came from above heal the sick, build schools in their names and these have attracted condemnations from different angles.

 

Many of the prophets and pastors have done some questionable things, which sometimes land them in prison t.

Many pastors and prophets have been accused of rape, ritualism, and murder—some have been caught with human parts. These are the few of the atrocities which they commit on daily basis. Don’t forget there are many good ones who truly help the needy and heal the sick without being embroiled in any impure practice.

 

Here is the list of pastors and popular prophets who have been imprisoned for their crimes.

 

1.Chukwuemeka Ezeugo.

The most notorious among all seems to be Chukwuemeka Ezugo, commonly known as ‘Reverend King’. Reverend King is the founder of the Christian Praying Assembly–based in Anambra. He gained notoriety after the murder of a member of his church, Anna Uzoh. This happened in 2006 and consequently, he was sentenced to death by a court situated in Lagos the following year. Reverend King contested for the Nigerian presidency in 2015 and his sentence was upheld by the supreme court in 2016

 

2.Prophet Alfa Babatunde

Prophet Babatunde was the founder of Sotitobire Miracle Center –based in Ondo State and he was the Overseer of the church before the scandal landed him in jail. The prophet was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found to be involved in the disappearance of a kid, Gold Kolawole, during a church service he was Presiding.

 

The kid who got missed during the church service made the prophet become a suspect and that led to his immediate arrest on November 10, 2019, the same day the incident happened after he was petitioned by the parents of the child. He was jailed alongside with six others who he had been working with.

 

3.Pastor Sabinus Onuigbo

Pastor Onuigbo was the general overseer of the Christian Charismatic Movement [CCM], primarily based in Enugu.

 

He was unfortunate to become one of the pastors and general overseers to land in jail. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison after he was found guilty of forgery.

 

3.Pastor Michael Oluronbi

 

Pastor Oluronbi was sentenced to 34 years in prison by a court in the United Kingdom after he was found guilty of raping underage for a 20-year period. He performed an exorcism on them and used the opportunity to have intercourse with them in disguise of cleansing them. He did this in collaboration with his wife.

 

4.Pastor Basil Princewill

Pastor Princewill was accused of raping and drugging a minor before raping her, and he was alleged to have given her abortion drugs forcefully after the incident. The founder of Mountain Movers Fire Ministry was consequently sentenced to 7 years in prison.

 

5.Timothy Omotosho

 

Pastor Omotosho was the founder of Dominion International Church, in South Africa. The televangelist was accused of rape by a South African, Cheryl Zondi, 22, who said the pastor had been raping her since she was 14.

 

The pastor was already in prison prior to this, awaiting trial for 97 charges leveled against him. He was accused of human trafficking, racketeering, and rape of his church members.
