Progress emerges winner of Nigeria Idol Season 7, bags #100 million

The Nigeria Idol season 7 which started in February 2022 ended on Sunday 22nd May 2022 with Progress Chukwuyem emerging as the winner. The nine-week show started with the top 12 contestants who emerged from the preliminary stage. Ten contestants were eliminated which left Progress fondly known as Pastor P and Zadok competing for the grand prize. Progress beat Zadok to emerge winner while the latter emerged runner-up. Progress performed Ariana Grande’s “Bang Bang” while Zadok performed White Houston’s “I wanna dance with somebody”.

 

The 21-year-old star hails from Delta state and is a student, musical artiste, songwriter, and performer and started gracing musical competitions at the young age of 16. The young and talented singer showed his vocal ability all through the show earning him the names: Pastor P, Butter P, and Smooth P in the show.

 

 

As the winner of the show, Progress would be walking home with 100 million naira which is broken down to a 30 million cash prize, a brand new SUV, a bigi branded refrigerator, a year supply of bigi drinks, a DSTV Explora fully installed with a 12 months premium subscription, a weekend getaway from Travel Beta and a recording deal.

 

The show attracted over 200 million votes in its nine weeks, with over 45 million votes for the finale.

 

This season had Obi Asika, superstar singers Simi, and D’banj as judges with media personality IK Osakioduwa as host. For the finale wrap-up, the judges also thrilled the audience with their performances. D’banj performed his songs “I’m on top of the world”, and emergency”, and also “I got my answers” with the two finalists Zadok and Progress. Simi performed her “Dudukuke”.

Season 6 winner Kingdom Krose performed his new song “Father’s got it all” with the eliminated ten contestants in the season. Also, Pheelz performed his song ‘Finesse’ in the finale.

This season’s show was supported by top brands such as DSTV, BIGI, Gotv, and Binance and aired on African Magic.
