The Ministry of Information and National Orientation, formerly known as the Ministry of Information and Culture, has undergone a significant name change under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, shed light on the rationale behind this renaming, which is aligned with a broader mission.

The Ministry of Information and Culture was renamed to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation under the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

The primary objective of this renaming is to foster the reorientation of Nigerians and reignite their sense of belonging as a unified nation.
The president has entrusted the Minister, Mohammed Idris, with the mandate of driving a national reorientation campaign. This campaign aims to instill and promote values that enhance patriotism, honesty, and transparency as fundamental principles within the administration.
The Ministry’s mission, following this name change, is to serve as a platform for promoting core values that will not only strengthen national unity but also reinforce the ethical and moral foundation of the country.

The renaming of the ministry underscores a commitment to shaping the narrative, values, and orientation of Nigerian society. It represents a strategic effort to instill a sense of patriotism and transparency among the nation’s citizens, ultimately contributing to the betterment of the nation as a whole.

He said, “President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ is to take Nigeria to an enviable height among the committee of nations and change the negative narrative about the country.”

“He charged me with the responsibility to ensure that Nigerians are reoriented within the few years that we are here, so that, at least, we can recover our sense as a nation and begin to go in the right direction.
“It is a great challenge.

You know that moral decadence is not among the youths only but among the entire social strata of the country.”

“I think that is why the president renamed the Ministry of Information and Culture to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.”

“It means the president wants to put the issues of orientation and reorientation on the front burner,” Idris said.

He added that the virtues of patriotism, honesty, and transparency were some of the things that Tinubu is vigorously promoting.

“He has given us a marching order to see that those values are promoted and put on the front burner and disseminated to the majority of Nigerians for the good of all”.
