FG begins Condition Cash Transfer of N1.125tr To 15m Nigerians
Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has unveiled the “Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme.” This initiative is not only a response to the removal of fuel subsidies but also a commitment to address the economic shocks affecting the nation’s most marginalized citizens.
The launch of this remarkable campaign coincided with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and the Presidential Villa in Abuja bore witness to this historic event. The program is designed to assist an astounding 15 million households, underscoring its sheer scale and impact on the poor and vulnerable.
The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme is set to cost approximately N1.125 trillion and will provide a lifeline for 62 million beneficiaries over the next three months. Each recipient will receive N75,000, a significant financial boost that promises to alleviate hardship and enhance their quality of life.
Representing President Tinubu at the inaugural event was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. He conveyed the President’s unwavering commitment to lead by example, ensuring that every Nigerian has access to sustained social protection.
In addition to the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, the Nigerian government is embarking on a series of intervention programs to bolster the well-being of its citizens:
An investment of N100 billion will be made to purchase 3,000 units of 20-seater Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses, promising cheaper and more accessible transportation options.
A sum of N200 billion will be allocated to cultivate 500,000 hectares of farmland, fortifying food security and promoting agricultural sustainability.
The government will release 2,000 metric tons of grains from strategic reserves to households across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring access to essential nutrition.
There will be a planned distribution of 225,000 metric tons of fertilizer and seedlings to empower farmers and boost agricultural productivity.
N75 billion will be allocated to support 100,000 SMEs and start-ups, fostering entrepreneurship and job creation.
This initiative is designed to provide shelter and support to the poor, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
Vulnerable market women, farmers, and traders will have access to business grants and loans, enabling them to strengthen their livelihoods.
The program will provide Renewed Hope support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), benefiting one million MSMEs across the country.
