Election Update: Orji Uzor Kalu wins Abia North Senatorial District [INEC Official Result]

Orji Uzor Kalu a former Governor of Abia State has won the Abia North Senatorial District Election.

Orji Uzor Kalu who contest for the position under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated the incumbent Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a total of 30,580 votes while Ohuabunwa scored 21,940 votes.

Chief David Ogba who also contested for the Abia North Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 11,410 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Dr. Charles Anumodu declared Orji Uzor Kalu who is also the Chairman of Slok Holdings, Daily Sun and New Telegraph Newspapers as the winner of the election.

However, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa has rejected the result. In the statement signed by Ukpai Ukairo on his behalf, he said

“It has come to our knowledge that INEC operatives in their haste to arrive at a pre-determined conclusion manipulated the electoral process to the shock of all well-meaning patriots who believe in democracy.

“In this respect, it is tragic that INEC could conduct an election without the issuance of form EC40G, a form used to capture cancelled votes and places where there were no voting.

“In the circumstances of the above, we demand that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Abia State should direct the Returning Officer of the Abia North Senatorial Election to the requisite make declaration in accordance with the dictates of Rule 17E(e) of the guidelines for the conduct of elections issued by INEC by cancelling the elections completely.

“It has come to our knowledge that INEC operatives in their haste to arrive at a pre-determined conclusion manipulated the electoral process to the shock of all well-meaning patriots who believe in democracy.

“In this respect, it is tragic that INEC could conduct an election without the issuance of form EC40G, a form used to capture cancelled votes and places where there were no voting.
