Why Matic refused to honor Leicester City owner by wearing chest red poppy

Manchester United midfielder refused to wear a red chest poppy with others in respect of late Leicester City owner,in their game against Bournemouth AFC on Saturday.

He was the only player in matchday 11 who didn’t wear the poppy as a sign of respect, but he has come out to explain why.

He continued : I was just 19 years old then, when the bombing occurred in our village, bombing which was engineered by Nato forces to drive away all Serbian forces from Kosovo territory. It was terrible to me.

“I know exactly why people wear poppies, and I give my absolute respect to everyone’s right to do so, and I have total sympathy for anyone who has lost loved ones due to conflict or other things.

But for me, as a frightened 12-year old boy living in Vrelo, and my country people was destroyed by the bombing of Serbia in 1999, and many lost their lives, I don’t want to be reminded of it via any symbol.

Though, I have been doing so previously,
but after games, on reflection I feel bad.

However, I won’t also wear it when we play Manchester City in the weekend, I respect English football, but this is for my sake.
