Lawmakers in Anambra state seek safety over Okoye’s murder
After the Gruesome killing of Hon. Okechukwu Okoye in Anambra state, members of the state house of Assembly have started seeking safety around them.
Further enquiries have stated that the state Police command will make a judgement on their demand.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Okoye was kidnapped on the 15th of May 2022 with his aide Cyril Chiegboka while returning from a social function. His head without body was later found on the 21st of May 2022 at Nnobi in Idemili south Local government area.
The Law makers had a closed door meeting on Sunday 22nd May 2022. According to an interview with the Punch, the state speaker, Uche Okafor has portray Okoye’s death to be one of misfortune and has encouraged the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo to ensure security of lives and property is achieved.
Although Okafor did not disclose any of the meeting details he said efforts were being made to ensure the safety of the lawmakers and they would meet again to decide on the matter.
The state Police PRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed that the police authorities have received demands to ensure the safety of the lawmakers.
Okelo Madukaife, the state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress has described Okoye’s murder has one of misfortune to the people of the state .
He said the party would not blame it on
any thought that would spoil the investigation since no group has accounted for the cowardly act.
“An emergency on Security must be declared by security agencies before it becomes a state of chaos as the government is in disarray.”
“We plead with all security agencies in the state to cooperate in locations of this abominable acts.
We encourage the people of Anambra to answer to valuable information as demanded by the state government.
