Lagos Couple Faint Hearing News Of Their Three Children Drowning

Three children drowned in a swimming pool on their estate in the Ajah area of Lagos State. The incident occurred on Sunday, 12th June, 2022 but was reported at the Ajah Police station on Monday 13th June, 2022.

According to information garnered, the estate has a pool generally accessible to it’s residents. The children went on the swimming expedition in the absence of their parents who had left home earlier on to attend an event unfortunately to meet their end.
Some residents including security members of the estate found the lifeless bodies of the children lying in the pool. According to the statement by a security member, the children were found in pool and after they had not responded to calls it dawned on them that something had gone horribly wrong. He further stated that immediately the children were recovered from the pool, there were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead. The three siblings who lost their lives were the only children to their parents.

The Ajah Police station was quickly alerted and the parents of the deceased were not informed of the tragic incident over the phone but that something urgent requiring their attention had come up. The parents quickly left the event and met up with the Chief Security Officer (CSO) and a few other persons. The husband and wife were informed of the ugly incident involving their children, unable to contain the news, they fainted and were quickly rushed to a hospital. They were revived after a while and have been unconsolable since the incident.
The deceased children are all girls; the first child was a 14-year-old; the second a 7-year-old and the third a 3-year-old.

Reacting to the development in a tweet, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, while commiserating with the bereaved family, condemned the estate management for not having readily available lifeguards to monitor activities around the pool- According to the Punch.

The tweet of Hundeyin read, “Just a piece of advice, do not use a swimming pool without an on-duty lifeguard. Do not swim at beaches without capable hands around. People are losing loved ones to avoidable drowning. Three siblings recently drowned together. Eldest was a teenager. Be careful out there.”
