Catholic Reverend Father Kidnapped And Killed By Gunmen In Edo State

Reverend Father Christopher Odia was abducted by gunmen on Sunday in the Ikabigbo community in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo state. The incident has sent fear and tension into the community. This is one of the many kidnap cases of clerics in the country. The cleric was abducted in his residence by gunmen on Sunday morning while he was preparing for the Sunday mass.

 

A source from the community disclosed that the vigilante group has gone into a rescue search for the catholic cleric. One of the sons of the community who is part of the search for the catholic priest was reported to have been shot by the gunmen, and the victim has been rushed to the hospital.

The traditional ruler of the community Bramah Alegeh has also confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were in place to ensure the rescue and return of the Reverend father. He confirmed that there is already a collaboration between the local vigilante and the Army operatives to ensure the rescue of the priest.

 

In a recent development, it has been reported that the 41year old abducted priest of St. Michael Catholic church, Ikabigbo has been killed by the gunmen. His death has been confirmed by the Catholic Diocese of Auchi on the evening of Sunday. Rev. Christopher Odia was also the principal of St. Philip Catholic Secondary school, Jattu.

 

There are reports that two of the gunmen were caught by the rescue team while one member of the rescue team was shot dead, and two were injured.
