ASSU Strike:FG discuss with ASSU, today, SSANU on Friday

 

Reports from the National Agency of Nigeria NAN is that The Federal Government has continued its discussion with the representatives of unions in the nation’s Universities.

It was earlier reported that the Prof Nimi Briggs Committee set up by the government to discuss the 2009 agreement was expected to conclude its three months schedule on June 7, 2022.

But inquiries have made known that the committee would meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU on Monday (today), while the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Allied Institutions would meet on Friday.

A source in ASUU revealed that there would be a meeting with Federal Government on monday. In an Interview, The Union’s National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke said that discussions would continue this week.

“We are carrying on with discussions as we have an invitation this week. The meeting will only end if the strike is called off,” he said.

“Since the strike is still going on, The negotiations cannot end. We do not have a problem with the committee. When we do, we will speak with the committee.” He joined.

Likewise, the National President of the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University (SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Educational and Allied Institutions, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed revealed that SSANU would meet with FG on Friday.

“Yes, we are discussing with the Federal Government on Friday,” he said.

SSANU’s strike commenced with a two weeks warning strike which began on the midnight of 27th March 2022. On the April 10, 2022, the strike was extended by two weeks and it is still ongoing.

ASSU Strike started on 14 February, 2022, over the failure of Federal Government to meet the Union’s demands which include: release of earned allowances, release of revitalization funds for universities, deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), and renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement.
