2023: Peter Obi Chooses Baba Ahmed Datti as Running Mate

Presidential aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) has on Friday chosen his running mate for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential elections.
He chose Senator Yusuf Baba Ahmed Datti at a press conference in Abuja as his vice president following the withdrawal of Doyin Okupe from the race.
Doyin Okupe, whose name was submitted temporarily to beat the June 17 deadline of INEC , announced the submission of his withdrawal letter to INEC on Thursday.
Yusuf Baba Ahmed Datti, 53, is a Kaduna born Senator. He is an economist and the founder of Baze University, Abuja and Baba Ahmed University, Kano.
He was elected in 2003 to represent Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives as a candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).
In 2011 to 2012, he served as a senator representing Kaduna-north under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Baba Ahmed was one of the candidates running for the PDP governorship ticket in Kaduna State before pulling out in May.
He accused the other aspirants of overspending and said it would cause the treasury pain if any of his associates were to come out as governor.
After he was announced on Friday, Baba Ahmed said he accepted to be Peter Obi’s running mate because he had faith in Obi’s ability to deliver true democracy in Nigeria.
Peter Obi was a presidential aspirant of the PDP before his defection to the Labour party.
