President Buhari Mourns Former Japanese PM, Abe Shinzo

 

President Mohammadu Buhari has extended his condolences on behalf of Nigerians to the family of former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe and the Japanese government after the prime minister was assassinated on Friday.

Shinzo Abe, 67, was shot while delivering a speech in Nara, Japan on Friday.

Buhari, in a statement signed on Friday by Femi Adesina, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said the Prime Minister will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to strengthening trade and investment between Africa and Japan through various initiatives and partnerships, using the instrumentality of Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

In the statement titled, “President Buhari commiserates with Japan on tragic death of former Prime Minister,” Buhari joined all Japanese in mourning the loss of the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister and outstanding leader and also assuring Mr Abe’s family of all Nigerians prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.

Buhari said that under Abe, Nigeria and Japan enjoyed a strategic partnership, supporting each other’s shared aspirations on economic cooperation, healthcare, human resource development, disaster risk reduction, peace and security.

The President prayed that the memory of the Japanese statesman and respected international leader will be a blessing to his nation and people, whom he served so devotedly.
