Shehu Sani To Contest Under a Different Political Party – Other Lawmakers React
Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, under the flagship of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, wrote a letter of resignation from the party.
He made the decision due to the controversies that surrounded the Party’s Primaries for the upcoming 2019 elections.
The letter reads in part, “I present to you highest compliments and wish by this communication to formally offer to you my resignation from the All Progressives Congress.
Shehu Sani had been cleared as the only candidate for the Senatorial District by The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC but The Governor of the State, Nasir el-Rufai opposed it vehemently.
Along the line, the Primary election was conducted in the district and Uba Sani, apparently, the favored choice of El-Rufai, emerged the winner.
Following his dissatisfaction with the results, the serving Senator boycotted the Primary and filed an appeal. The Party upheld his appeal but to his amazement,t the name of El-Rufai’s candidate was forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meanwhile, Sani, on Sunday stated that he would still contest for the forthcoming 2019 election, despite his resignation from the party that had brought him into the Senate.
Sani made his next political move known on his Facebook handle, while he commended his supporters and urged them to wait for 48 hours for him to disclose the identity of his new Party.
He wrote: “This is to thank all my supporters and friends for the show of solidarity and assurances of support over my decision to exit the APC.
“I assure you that in the next two days you will be informed of my new party. And be rest assured I will contest in the upcoming elections Insha Allah”
Following his resignation, a few other senators like BEN BRUCE, DINO MELAYE and ex-Minister of aviation Fani Kayode have reacted, saying that SHEHU SANI had finally fled the darkness and seen the light, that the APC had indeed deceived the Senator in order to keep him within the Party until the final names were submitted.
Speaking on the development, Fani-Kayode made a post on his Twitter page, commending Sani for dumping APC.
According to him, Sani via his resignation from the APC has succeeded in rejecting what he describes as the ‘horrendous plague that Buhari represents’
The EX-minister wrote: “My good friend Sen. Shehu Sani has left the APC. He has fled the darkness and seen the light.
Dino Melaye took to his Twitter page, to sympathize with the Kaduna Senator, saying the ruling Party was double-minded with regards to The lawmaker. “Sen Shehu Sani has just dumped the APC. People who did not like you in the morning and afternoon but claim to like you at night, I beg, borrow urself some brain”.
“Baba God I thank you say I no become suya in the hands of cash and carry party. (APC) Aboki accept my condolence. Oh, my home.”
