Second Niger Bridge To Be Ready in 2022 – Contractor

Friedrich Josef Wieser the project manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction company handling the construction of the second Niger bridge has disclosed during an unscheduled inspection of the work, that the bridge will be ready in 2022.
He disclosed that the project is being driven by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), that is led by the Managing Director Uche Orji and Executive Director Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli
Describing the Project, he said the First phase of the project requires the construction of a six-lane second bridge through the 10-kilometer distance of the River Niger between Onitsha Anambra State and Asaba in Delta State
speaking further, he said it also included the construction of another 12 kilometers before and after the bridge and also other ancillary construction works that will still be done within a period of 44months
The construction of the bridge started on September 1, 2018, and expected to be completed on February 28, 2022.
NSIA renewed its commitment in the construction of the bridge and has already released N33 billion out of the N220 billion project cost.
