President Buhari Attributes Neglect of Infrastructure To Previous Administrations
President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the previous administrations of, Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan of neglecting a very crucial aspect of the economy: infrastructure despite the fact that Nigeria earned an exceptionally high amount of money between 1999 and 2004.
He stated that with the availability of outrageously surplus resources at the disposal of Nigeria from 1999 and 2014, it is a pity that infrastructure went on a complete downward spiral within the same period.
The President expressed his sadness while receiving outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, and this was made known by a statement issued by Femi Adesina the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Despite the fact that the President did not mention the names of his predecessors, the statement quoted him stating that the focus of his administration is now on infrastructure, roads, rail, power, and others. He also wished all those had been fixed in the days of surplus money.
He specified that the amount of money Nigeria earned between 1999 and 2014 is on record, but stated that nothing was done to infrastructure. He further went on to say that they are doing a lot more with a lot fewer resources. And made it clear that they shall continue to do their best.
The outgoing British High Commissioner was commended by the President for his pleasant and warm disposition, which was most evident in his traversing nearly the entire country.
The President noted that he always saw him all over the place.
After spending over three years in Nigeria, Arkwright said he was able to visit 30 of the 36 states, and discovered that the people are quite engaging and enterprising, he also added that the British government would be glad to offer a helping hand as required in any part of the country.
He concluded by thanking Buhari for his support, and mentioned that over the past three years, the relations between Britain and Nigeria have improved tremendously.
