PDP Presidential aspirant, Hayatu-Deen quits due to obscene monetization
Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, one of the 14 presidential aspirants of the PDP has withdrawn from the presidential race on Friday 27th May, 2022 as a result of obscene monetization of the contest, he claimed.
In a letter written to Iyorchia Agu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he stated his reasons for stepping down.
He stated: “I request to repeat that I did not become part of party politics to contest for presidency because of personal gains and inordinate ambition, but in order to serve our country. “It is as a result of personal principles and with great humility that I have decided after wide consultations to withdraw from this contest which has been obscenely monetized.” He added.
However, The economist expressed his wish to continue supporting the party.
He bewailed that the major disputes which forced him to contest for presidency which included poverty, insecurity and unemployment has not stoppe holding Nigerians hostage.
According to the Punch, Hayatu-Deen is the second presidential candidate to have withdrawn from the PDP presidential race following the resignation of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and top presidential candidate of the PDP on 25th May 2022.
Obi explained in his own letter that recent happenings in the PDP led to his withdrawal and resignation before the party’s president primaries scheduled to hold on 28th and 29th May, 2022.
The remaining Presidential aspirants who have not stepped down from the PDP presidential race include: Abubakar Atiku (former vice president); Bukola Saraki (former Senate President); Anyim Pius Anyim ( former senate president); Aminu Tambuwal (governor, Sokoto state); Nyesom Wike (governor, Rivers state); Bala Mohammed (governor, Bauchi state); Emmanuel Udom (governor, Akwa ibom state); Ayo Fayose (former governor, Ekiti state); Dele Momodu and Sam Ohunabunwa.
The party had thrown its presidential ticket open of late receiving reproach from socio-cultural organisations like the Ohanaeze Ndigbo which declared that political parties like the PDP and the APC should zone its ticket to the South-East geopolitical zone.
