Olukayode Ariwoola Sworn in as Acting CJN

 

President Mohammadu Buhari, the president of Nigeria has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the new acting chief Justice of Nigeria on Monday.

Ariwoola, a senior justice of Nigeria’s apex court, the supreme court took the oath of office as the acting CJN.

The president tendered the oath of office to Ariwoola during a swearing in ceremony held at the council chamber of the presidential villa in Abuja.

The new acting CJN was sworn in following the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Mohammed Tanko and is expected to serve in an acting capacity till further confirmation from the National Judicial Council (NJC).

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ariwoola was born on August 22, 1958 and in 2011, he was appointed Justice of the supreme court.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola is an indigene of Iseyin, Oyo State and before his appointment as justice of the apex court, he served in the appeal court between 2005 and 2011.

He served as a judge of the high court of Oyo State , appointed to him in 1992 from private legal practice.

Ariwoola began his education in Iseyin at the Local Demonstration School, Oluwole between 1959 and 1967.

He attended the Muslim Modern School in Iseyin between 1968 and 1969 before progressing to Ansar-Ud-Deen High School, Saki in Oyo North of Oyo State.

He bagged his bachelor of laws degree with honours at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife, Osun State in July 1980.

He was called to the Nigeria bar and after that got enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Solicitor and Advocate.

He served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions, before his promotion to the Supreme Court.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will retire by 2028.
