Okechukwu Okoye: Unknown Gunmen kill Anambra Lawmaker
Okechukwu Okoye, a member of the Anambra house of assembly has been killed by unknown gunmen after he was kidnapped last week, Monday 15th of May 2022.
The late Lawmaker who was popularly known as ” Okey Di Okay” was kidnapped with his aide, Cyril Chiegboka along Aguluzigbo Umiona, Agwata LGA
Before his demise, he represented the Agwata II constituency which was the same community as the governor of Anambra state, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, The police has described Okoye’s murder as a cowardly act.
Echeng Echeng, the commissioner of police for Anambra state said the culprits must be brought to book.
The police PRO, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu recounted how the force tried to rescue Okoye when he was kidnapped
He said:
“The command operatives had gone on a rescue operation on 15th may 2022, which was after the incident of Okoye’s abduction on the same day at 5: 30 pm along Aguluzigbo Umiona, Agwata LGA.
While the operation was still in progress, On Saturday, the 21st of May 2022 at about 4pm, Some people discovered an headless body that was later recovered by the police along Nnobi, Ideani road.
The corpse was later identified as Hon Okechukwu Okoye after further information and confirmation and has been taken to the morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng has sent his condolences to the family and friends of the late Okoye.
The governor of Anambra, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo who received the news of Okoye’s murder with shock has condemned the act and has also placed 10 million Naira as reward for any valuable information on the culprits.
He offered his condolences to Okoye’s kinsmen in Isuofia.
He also noted that this might be the same criminal gang who attacked him and killed three policemen two years ago at Isuofia.
He also promised that Anambra would soon be hell for this culprits.
