Naomi Osaka Wins Australian Open Title, Becomes World No. 1

In the Just concluded Australian Open, The 21 years old Naomi Osaka defeated Petra Kvitova to clinch the trophy. She won after beating Kvitova 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4.

After the defeat, Naomi Osaka now becomes the new WTA World No.1 as soon as the rankings are released on Monday, January 28, 2019.

This is her second consecutive Grand Slam title. Naomi Osaka has become the first tennis player from Japan to achieve such a historic milestone since computer ranking was introduced in 1975 and the 26th woman overall to hold the No.1 ranking.

Naomi Osaka is also the first woman to win two major Tennis championship in a row since Serena Williams picked up four straight in 2014-2015.

Naomi defeated Serena Wiliams last year September in the US Open final.
