Just In: President Buhari Meets With APC Governors Ahead of 2023 Elections

A closed-door meeting was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday between President Muhammadu Buhari, and governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The meeting was attended by Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello; Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma; Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum; Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai; Jigawa state governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong; Nassarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule; and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu who also doubles as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).

The governors after the meeting declined to speak to the media about what was deliberated in the meeting or the outcome.

However, there are speculations that the meeting may be over the search for a running mate for the party’s presidential flag bearer Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and also for the 2023 general elections across the country.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been in consultations after the party’s convention over the choice of a running mate. The Christian Association of Nigeria has issued a warning against the option of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the presidency citing that Nigeria is not an Islamic nation.
