Just In: Court orders Nnamdi Kanu re-arrest, revokes bail granted to him

Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court had in a ruling on Thursday ordered the re-arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.

The ruling is coming after Justice Binta Nyako revokes the bail granted to Nnamdi Kanu on April 25, 2017.

She explained that the court is giving the order for the re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu because he failed to appear in court after his bail was granted.

Also while ruling on the application filed by Mr. Magaji Labaran the prosecuting counsel, she ordered that Nnamdi Kanu will be tried in absentia and directed that a bench warrant be issued for his arrest.

Mr. Magaji Labaran had asked the court to try Nnamdi Kanu in absentia which is in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act since he had failed to appear in court.

He further urged the court to revoke the bail granted to him as well for failing to comply with the conditions of the bail.

We will recall that Justice Binta Nyakor had granted bail to Nnamdi Kanu on health ground on 25th April 2017 and asked him to produce three sureties that must include a serving Nigerian Senator, A Jewish Religious leader, and a highly respected person who must own a landed property in Abuja.

She added that Nnamdi Kanu should not grant press interviews or hold rallies or be found in a gathering of more than 10 persons while on bail.

However, the Nigerian Army was reported to have invaded the palace of the father of Nnamdi Kanu in Afaraukwu in Abia State. This forced Nnamdi Kanu to flee. At that time, he was presumed dead because his were-about was unknown not until he reappeared in Isreal.
