Ghana’s President elected new chair for Climate Vulnerable Forum -CVF.

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) is a global partnership of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of climate change.

The forum serves as a south-south cooperation platform for participatory governments to act together to deal with global climate change.

These countries actively seek a firm and urgent resolution to the current intensification of climate, domestically and internationally.

The governments which founded the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) agree to national commitments to pursue low carbon development and carbon neutrality.

The CVF includes 25 countries from Africa and the Middle East – Burkina Faso, Benin, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, eSwatini, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Palestine, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Yemen, Uganda, and Guinea.

19 countries from Asia Pacific – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Nepal, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Sir Lanka, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Vietnam.

11 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean – Barbados, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Saint Lucia.

This brings the total number of countries in CVF to 55 of which eleven are the founding countries. The CVF was founded in 2009 at the initiative of the Maldives government by eleven governments. The forum represents about 1.2 billion people in the world.

The forum is recognized as a voice on international climate change issues.

The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday 25th May 2022 was selected to chair the CVF.

The president took over as chair of the forum as the two-year term of Bangladesh country as chair of the forum ended.

The president took over from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.

He will serve for a two-year term from 2022-to 2024. Ghana will be the second African country after Ethiopia to lead the forum.

The president of Ghana in his remarks commended the efforts of the Bangladesh prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, and assured that his country Ghana will do all she can in defense of the world’s most climate threatened nations.

He also reiterated his country’s commitment to work expeditiously toward its ambitious climate prosperity plan.
