Black Panther Makes History in Oscar Nominations
Black Panther a superhero movie that was the rave last year has made history once again after it made history as the highest grossing film of 2018.
It is the first Marvel Superhero Movies to be ever nominated for an Oscar Award.
Not only that, it was nominated for seven awards. It is also the first Super Hero movie to be nominated for Best Picture. Comic book movies had been shunned from Hollywood’s top honor to the consternation of some industry insiders.
In addition to Best Picture, Black Panther collected seven total nods — for costume design, original score, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s original song “All The Stars,” production design, and the two sound categories editing and mixing.

Hannah Beachler just became the first African American to ever be Oscar-nominated for Best Production Design. In addition to working on BLACK PANTHER (where she was Marvel’s first female production designer), she also did MOONLIGHT and Beyoncé’s “Lemonade.” pic.twitter.com/zYRRVzm98L
