2023 Election: Labor Party Names Dr. Doyin Okupe Peter Obi’s Running Mate

As the deadline by INEC for the submission of candidates by parties ended on Friday, 17th June 2022, the PDP, APC, LP, and other parties have sent in their candidates to INEC ahead of the forthcoming election.

 

 

Former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Director-general of Peter Obi Campaign Organization, Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe better known as Dr. Doyin Okupe has been named running mate for Labour Party. Dr. Doyin Okupe was also Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

 

 

On Friday night, Dr. Doyin on Politics Today of Channels Television confirmed that he is standing in as the running mate for the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Gregory Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general election.

 

He stated that his name has been submitted to the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC as the deadline issued by INEC closed on Friday.

 

He also hinted that discussions are still ongoing in the party for a suitable running mate for the presidential candidate Peter Obi. When the new running mate is agreed on, he will most likely be changed.

 

Mr. Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state emerged as the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party in its primary held in Asaba, Delta state.

 

He had earlier withdrawn his presidential ambition on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP after which he defected to the Labour Party.
The certificate of return has been handed over to the presidential flag bearer last Friday by the Labour party following his victory.

 

 

In the party convention, two presidential aspirants Professor Pat Utomi and Joseph Faduri stepped down to give Mr. Peter Obi the party’s presidential ticket.

 

Mr. Peter Obi is in the race for Nigeria’s presidential seat with other contenders including the former governor of Lagos state Bola Ahmed Tinubu; and the former vice president of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
