Update: Rivers House of Assembly Burnt Down Over plan to Impeach Governor

Security operatives fired gunshots as well as tear gas on the premises of the Rivers state House of Assembly complex on Monday as lawmakers commenced the process of impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

It was revealed that tear gas was used to chase away some lawmakers and protesters after the governor stormed the complex to prevent his impeachment.

It was noted earlier that the House Leader of Assembly, Hon. Edison Ehie was removed from his position.

He was removed as the Leader of the House due to the crisis in the Assembly on Monday.

However, there was a fire outbreak at the House of Assembly Complex on Sunday night.

Reports have it that hoodlum set the Assembly Complex ablaze, but the Federal Fire Service and security agencies assisted in putting out the fire.

“House Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Edison Ehie has been removed from his position as the Leader of the House,” a source told SaharaReporters on Monday.”

Toptreends Nigeria learned that Ehie was accused of supervising the burning of the Assembly Complex on Sunday night in order to aid the governor.

“He was accused of supervising the burning of the House of Assembly to aid the governor.”

“The governor is at war with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Toptrends also learned that the Speaker of the House had served an impeachment notice on Governor Fubara.

Some reports claim the arson attack was to prevent any move to remove Ehie and commence an impeachment procedure against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
