UPDATE: Police Intervened in Rivers State Assembly Drama
The Rivers State Police Command disclosed that an investigation has been launched into the incidents which occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday morning.
The police command made this known on social media through a statement on the Command X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday afternoon. It vowed that the culprits responsible for the situation will be arrested for prosecution.
The statement reads: “The Rivers State Police Command has commenced swift security actions on security situations that occurred at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. Anyone found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted. Further development will be communicated to the General Public, please.”
It was earlier reported that on Monday morning about 23 lawmakers, including the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who presided over the sitting, resolved to begin the impeachment process of the state incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara, which caused gunshots and firing of teargas within the Complex
The lawmakers suspended the leader of the House, Edison Ehie, and all the lawmakers believed to be loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
