Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service and then stored safely in our database and other external backup media in case the website crashes and needs to be rebuilt.

We also ask you for a website that you own which is entirely optional and may not be necessary in case the user doesn’t have one. As the need arises, we may require additional information like phone numbers etc. Currently we also push notifications to users who have subscribed to receive notifications of all our posts. Their browser is also stored by our notification provider which is One Signal Notification.

What data breach procedures do we have in place
Once we detect any breach of our user’s data, mostly in the area of data scraping, we usually inform the hosting company of the website in which the data has been scrapped to take it down. We also don’t approve unnecessary comments once they are detected to be spam.
What third parties do we receive data from
We receive data from JetPack, a WordPress Plugin. It gives us the statistics for our visitors and we use the data to write articles focused on our audience. We also receive data from Squirrl a WordPress plugin that shows us how our articles are performing on Google Search Results.
What automated decision-making and/or profiling do we do with user data
We use our user data to write articles targeted to what they are interested in reading.
Industry regulatory disclosure requirements
The Nigerian Senate has approved a bill that online publishers should not publish fake news and also if news is published that leads to the death of someone, the publisher of the news is liable to a death sentence. We started Top Trends Nigeria to help fight against fake news.
Our News Sources are also very well-known sources since we are reporting on mainly trending topics.
