Sudan and Senegal played out a tense 0-0 draw in their final CHAN 2025 Group D clash at Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium, a result that saw both nations qualify for the quarter-finals. Sudan topped the group on goal difference (+4), while defending champions Senegal progressed in second place with a +1 goal balance.
First Half: Penalty Drama Denied
The opening half was cagey, with few clear chances. Senegal’s Pape Badji spurned two good opportunities, while Sudan’s Abdel Raouf Yagoub forced a save from Marc Diouf.
The biggest moment came just before halftime when referee Brighton Chimene awarded Sudan a penalty after Oumar Ba pushed Walieldin Khedr in the box. However, following a VAR review, the decision was controversially overturned, leaving the Sudanese bench fuming.

Second Half: Fierce Midfield Battle

Tensions boiled over in stoppage time as Senegal’s Mbaye Yaya Ly was shown a second yellow card, reducing the champions to 10 men for the closing moments.
