Police Arrest University Student over Attempted Murder of Colleague
Victor Oluwatimilehin, a 400 level, Student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has been arrested by police operatives of the Ogun state command for attempting to murder a policeman on a stop and search duty along Ijebu Ode-Ibadan federal highway on Thursday, 2 June, 2022.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Oluwatimilehin, who drove in a red-coloured artificially tinted Toyota Camry car with LND 929 GX as registration number supposedly increased the speed of the camry car and purposely knocked down the police officer who was identified as inspector Idowu Moses.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, The Ogun State command Public Relation Officer (PRO) confirmed the arrest of the suspect. He said the victim, a mobile policeman attached to Mopol 71 in Awa Ijebu, in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state had signaled the suspect for a check since the camry car occupants could not be seen from outside.
Instead of stopping, the suspect whose camry car was filled with some house properties and heading towards Ibadan in Oyo State however accelerated the camry car and in the end knocked down the police inspector before continuing his journey towards Ibadan, believing the victim had died.
The gravely wounded victim was rescued by his other colleagues and was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment while others started looking for the suspect along Ibadan road. He was finally nabbed at a village near Ibadan and brought down to Ijebu Ode area command.
The Police PRO revealed that the State command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has commanded that Oluwatimilehin be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.
The Commissioner of Police also warned that Members of the public should cease from any act of criminality as any attack on his men while no duty would not be allowed.
