The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reacted to the murder of a corps member, Grace Chalya Silas, who was stabbed to death in Kaduna by unknown assailants.

Grace Chalya Silas met a tragic end while performing her national service in Kaduna State. Chalya’s life was cut short by suspected hoodlums during her early morning exercise routine, sending shockwaves through her community and the entire nation.

She was a vibrant and committed NYSC member serving in Kaduna State. On that fateful Wednesday morning, she ventured out for her usual early morning jog in the Barnawa area of Kaduna. What should have been a routine exercise turned into a horrifying nightmare as she was brutally attacked and fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants.

The NYSC community was left in a state of deep sorrow and agony upon hearing the tragic news. Chalya had participated in the morning devotion with her fellow corps members in Barnawa GRA, where she resided. She embodied the spirit of service and dedication that the NYSC stands for.

The Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC Eddy Megwa,, expressed the organization’s grief and commitment to justice. A good Samaritan alerted her colleagues about the incident, and the NYSC Management swiftly rushed her to Harmony Hospital Limited for urgent medical attention. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Chalya Silas tragically passed away.

In response to this horrific incident, the NYSC is intensifying efforts to bring the culprits to justice. They are working in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for Chalya’s death are held accountable. It’s a painful reminder that the safety and well-being of all corps members, who are serving their nation, must be a shared responsibility.

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. CP Musa Yusuf Garba, the Commissioner of Police, is leading the efforts to bring Chalya’s killers to justice.
