Maria Sharapova ousts defending champion Wozniacki
In the Australian Open Game between Sharapova vs Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova defeated the Australian Open Champion Caroline Wozniacki in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 scoreline.
According to reports from New York Post,
“Sharapova broke Wozniacki’s serve in the seventh game of the third set with a forehand to the open corner, then dropped both arms and screamed in delight.”
“She held serve in the next game to lead 5-3, then broke Wozniacki’s service again in the last game, clinching the match on her second match point when Wozniacki’s backhand return went wide.”
Maria Yuryevna Sharapova is a Tennis Professional who is from Nyanga Russia. She has been living in the United States since 1994. She was born on 19 April 1987 and is aged 31 yrs old.
She has competed in the WTA tour since 2001 and has ranked worlds No.1 singles by the WTA on five separate occasions for a total of 21 weeks. She currently ranks No.30 but with her current win, her rank is sure to go up.
She was the Australian Open Winner in 2008 and will play against Australia’s Ash Barty on the fourth round.
On the other hand, Caroline Wozniacki is a Danish Tennis professional player. She is a former singles worlds No.1. She is also the first woman from a Scandinavian country to hold the top ranking position and 20th in the Open Era. She was at the top rankings in 2010 and 2011.
With Wozniacki current defeat by Sharapova, her ranking is sure to go down. However, she was born in Odense Denmark on 11th July 1990 and is aged 28 years. She currently ranks No.3 and lives in Miami Florida, United States. Not until her current defeat, She is the defending Champion of the Australian Open.
