How 19 persons in search of ‘bulletproof’ charm died in auto crash
on the 6th of April 2019, 19 persons lost their lives with 38 others seriously injured in a fatal road accident along the
Daudawa-Funtua road in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims of the road accident were all members of a vigilante group from Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State who embarked on a journey to obtain a “bulletproof” charm from a boy who stays at Tsaunni in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Buhari Usman on of the survivor of the tragedy while speaking to some reporters the following day after the accident said the accident occurred while they were returning from Tsaunni village.
According to him they embarked on the journey following an information that a boy was in possession of a potent charm against bullets.
“We were told his charm is good. People have used the charm and they claimed it has worked for them.
“As members of the vigilante, we felt we need it to protect ourselves against incessant cases of banditry, kidnapping and rustling.”
He added that is was when they were returning back that the accident occurred because the driver dozed off and they suddenly found themselves inside a big ditch.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander of Katsina State by name Mr Godwin Ngeuku, while confirming the tragedy explained that the accident happened on Friday morning at Daudawa village which is few kilometers from Funtua Local Givernment Area of Katsina State.
He disclosed that the Mitsubishi bus which was conveying the victims was on top speed and lost control which resulted to the bus somersaulting several times.
