Gunmen Attack Kogi State Police Station, Kill Inspector On Duty

 

In the early hours of Friday, a Police Area Command Office at Eika-Ohizenyi in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi state was attacked by gunmen which resulted in the death of an inspector on duty identified as Jibril in the course of gunfire exchange.

 

The gunmen attacked the police command at about 12:30 am on Friday. The Police Inspector was killed in the exchange of fire between the police operatives and the hoodlums.

 

The hoodlums fled when the area commander and a detachment of military in the area came to the rescue.
It was also gathered that part of the area command office was razed by dynamite which the gunmen detonated in the area.

 

 

The incident has been confirmed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Ovye Aya. Aya also informed that the Commissioner of Police Kogi state, CP Edward Egbuka had visited the scene for an on-the-spot firsthand assessment.

 

The commissioner of police CP Egbuka has also ordered the deployment of more operational assets comprising operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, and State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.

 

The Kogi state police have assured the members of the public that the command will work together with other security agencies to ensure the continuous safety and peace of all.

 

This attack is coming a few months after gunmen attacked a police formation in the Adavi local government area and killed three police officers on duty. This incident was carried out on a Saturday, around 2 am in April.
