Buhari condemns senseless terrorist attack on Ohanaeze Ndigbo chief’s home
On Saturday the 19th of March 2022, Unkown Gunmen set on fire the House of Prof. George Obiozor and some Police assets.
Prof. George Obiozor is the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Ohaneze Ndigbo is the apex body that represents all Igbo communities both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
The incident took place at Awo-nmanma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to eyewitness reports, the attackers used Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and where releasing gunshots indiscriminately before setting the house of Prof George on fire.
President Muhammadu Buhari speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu described the attack on the house of the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo as “deeply distressing”.
In the statement released on Sunday by Garba Shehu, President Buhari said: “The President, who strongly condemned the violence in the sub-region urged everyone to maintain peace, adding that the law and order capabilities in the Southeast are being strengthened.
“While this is being done, President Buhari called on the people of Imo State in particular and the sub-region, in general, to maintain peace as the police and other agencies are working to ensure that normalcy is restored at the earliest.
“The President extends sympathies to the police authorities over the losses of men and materials, and to Professor Obiozor who he urged to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of the Federation against these senseless terrorists.”
The reason Unknown Gunmen attacked the house of Prof. George Obiozor’s house is still unknown at the time of filing this report.
However, we will recall that Unknown Gunmen have been recking havoc in Imo State for some time now.
