Breaking: Terrorists Attack Abuja Correctional Center
It has been reported that the Medium security Center, Kuje correctional centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory was attacked by terrorist on Tuesday night to free jailed criminals despite the warnings of the State Security Service.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria NAN, the State Security Service had earlier warned the prison authorities of an impending attack on Tuesday.
The prison was later attacked that night by the terrorists using three bombs to gain access to four entry and exit points.
Kuje Prison is located in Kuje Area Council of Abuja outside the city centre, 24 kilometers to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and 47 kilometers to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Dangerous criminals including apprehended Boko Haram terrorist are held in the prison. Kuje Prison also holds high profile public officers like governors standing trial or already convicted.
According to NAN, high profile terrorists were relocated to the prison earlier. The officials are trying to trace the motivation of the attack.
Kuje Prison has a capacity of 550 but currently holds 1000 detainees.
it is understood that the custodial service demanded and got reinforcement from the army, SSS and police.
Soldiers of the 176 Special Forces Guards Brigade Battalion, Gwagwalada, were deployed by the army specifically.
Although the impact of the attack is noy known, the officials are suspecting a terrorist motivation to free dangerous criminals.
