Breaking News: Waec Gets New Boss

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has  appointed Dr. Amos Dangu as the new Head of National Office (HNO).

This was contained in a statement released by the board signed today 2nd Oct,2023 by  the Acting. Head, Public Affairs, WAEC, Yaba, Lagos, Mrs. Moyosore Adesina. 
Before his appointment as council’s head, he has worked as the Deputy Registrar of the office of the HNO.
His appointment of Dr. Amos Dangut came on the after the expiration of the tenure of the council’s past HNO, Mr Patrick Areghan.
The announcement of Dr. Amos Dangut’s appointment as the new Head of National Office (HNO) at WAEC was officially communicated through a statement issued by Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, and made available to the press on Monday in Lagos.

It’s worth noting that Mr. Patrick Areghan, the outgoing HNO, concluded his term and stepped down from office on October 1st, 2023. Mr. Areghan assumed the role of HNO on March 5, 2020. Mrs. Adesina highlighted that Mr. Areghan’s began his journey with WAEC in 1998 when he as an Assistant Registrar (AR) II. He steadily climbed the ranks, achieving the position of Deputy Registrar in April 2018
Mrs. Adesina also mentioned that Dr. Dangut received commendation from the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for his transparent management of examinations during the period from 2000 to 2006.
Additionally, she noted that Dr. Dangut had served in various key roles, including as an Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer of Examinations Security and as Deputy to the branch Controller at the Uyo office, during the period from January onwards.
Continuing his career trajectory within WAEC, Dr. Dangut held significant roles such as:

Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the branch Controller, Bauchi office, from January 2008 to December 2011.
Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller at Yola office, from December 2011 to January 2019.
Deputy Registrar/Controller of the Post Examinations Department, from January 2019 to October 2020.
He was the Deputy Registrar Zonal cum Coordinator at the Ikeja Zonal Office.
Over the past 25 years, Dr. Dangut’s effective use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has led to innovative enhancements in processes related to Test Development, Test Administration, and Post Test Activities, further demonstrating his dedication to the field.
Dr Dangut, an astute scholar with various educational publications in international and national journals, had also presented numerous keynotes and other papers at international and national conferences/fora.
According to Adesina Dr. Dangut, also is an active member of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
Dr. Amos Dangut, the newly appointed Head of National Office (HNO) at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), boasts an impressive background and a history of notable achievements.

According to Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, The Acting Head of Public Affairs with WAEC, Dr. Dangut’s exceptional qualities were evident from the early stages of his career, notably during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in 1991/1992. During this period, he demonstrated innovative teaching methods and played a crucial role in empowering farmers to enhance their productivity. His outstanding contributions were recognized with prestigious awards for meritorious service from both the Ondo State Government and Akoko South-West Local Government.
Dr. Dangut’s journey began on October 2, 1967, in Mbar District, Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. He also attended Government Secondary School, Riyom, from 1981 to 1983, and Government Science School, Kuru, from 1983 to 1986, where he obtained his WASC/SC in 1986. He furthered his education at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, earning a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991.
His pursuit of knowledge didn’t stop there. Dr. Dangut obtained a Master of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Ibadan in April 1994. In 2017, he achieved a PhD in Animal Science from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi. Additionally, he acquired a Master of Education (Administration and Planning) from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in 2020.
Beyond his academic accomplishments, Dr. Dangut is actively involved in professional associations, including the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
He is a family man, married and blessed with children, and his diverse educational background and wealth of experience position him well for his new role as the Head of National Office at WAEC.
