Breaking News: Tribunal Sacks Nasarawa Gov, Declares PDP’s Ombugadu Winner
The Nasarawa State Governor has been sacked by the Governorship Election Tribunal seating in Nasarawa State.
The Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has declared David Ombugadu the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election after sacking Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressive Congress (APC)
Justice Ezekiel Ajayi while delivering the judgement virtually declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party as the lawfully elected governor of Nasarawa State.
Two of the Justices who are members of the tribunal agreed that the election was won by the PDP candidate while one of them Justice Ibrahim Mashi dissented.
The former governor of Nasarawa State Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Gov Sule were seen arriving in the courtroom earlier today ahead of the judgement and it was stated that the judgement would be delivered via Zoom video conferencing app.
We will recall that Governor Abdullahi Sule sought re-election for a second term and faced tough opposition during the election.
INEC reported that Governor Sule polled a total of 347,209 votes to defeat David Ombugadu who polled a total of 283,016 to come in second position
Atiku Abubakar the Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated David Ombugadu through his Twitter handle.
While congratulating David Ombugadu, the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and also the PDP’s presidential candidate said “My warmest congratulations to Mr David Ombugadu of the PDP, who has been affirmed by the election petition tribunal in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as the duly elected Governor of the state”.
He further added that “Elections are the cornerstone of democracy, and the people’s will, once determined, should always be upheld”.
