Breaking News: Nigeria Air Force (NAF) neutralise terrorists in Lake Chad
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on monday reported that it had successfully neutralized several Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in a series of air strikes. These strikes targeted the Tumbuns area located on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Borno state of Nigeria.
The Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, conveyed this information in a statement released on Monday in Abuja
Furthermore, he explained that the air strikes on Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu were carried out between September 27 and September 30. These strikes were executed following the confirmation of terrorist activities in these areas, which posed a significant threat to military installations and the safety of law-abiding Nigerian residents in those locations
In this case of Tumbun Fulani, the terrorists were observed loading jerrycans onto two gun trucks that were hidden beneath shrubbery.
Following this observation, NAF aircraft were immediately dispatched to intercept the location, which was believed to serve as a significant logistics base for the terrorists.
The spokesperson of NAF stated that three gun trucks carrying terrorists were observed moving into the area, making it imperative to conduct an airstrike. Following the airstrike, it was confirmed that several terrorists had been neutralized, and their trucks were destroyed.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet emphasized that the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to totally curtail the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and other parts of Nigeria remains resolute. The operational successes achieved by the AFN underscore the enhanced synergy and cooperation among all security agencies, as well as the unwavering support of Nigerians.

A similar airstrikes were carried out at Tumbun Shitu after suspected terrorist hideouts were spotted concealed under dense foliage. Gabkwet, nevertheless, reported that the aftermath of the airstrike confirmed the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their trucks.
He emphasized that the resolve of the NAF to substantially reduce terrorist activities in the Northeast and other regions of Nigeria remains resolute.
Recall that on Tuesday, Nigerian Air Force fighter jets, as part of Operation Udo Ka II’s air component, conducted airstrikes targeting the hideouts and armories of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) combatants in Anambra and Imo states.
These airstrikes were carried out in Mother Valley Orsumughu, located in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, and Aku Ihube, situated in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The decision to conduct these air operations was based on intelligence reports indicating that the terrorists were planning to cause mayhem among the residents and in neighboring states within the region.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF spokesperson, stated in a Wednesday press release that some of the bombed locations were believed to be the combatants’ armories.
According to the statement released on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, aircraft from the Air Component of Operation Udo Ka II conducted multiple airstrikes on locations associated with IPOB/ESN. These locations were situated in Mother Valley Orsumughu within Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State and Aku Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The airstrikes carried out at both locations successfully achieved their intended objectives and were deemed successful.
