Australia Pulled out from the 2034 World Cup Bid

FIFA invited Asia and Oceania regions to bid for the World Cup hosting concerning the rotating hosting rights after naming Morocco, Spain, and Portugal as joint hosts for 2030.

The just concluded Women’s World Cup this year was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand which was generally accepted and regarded as a success.

Australia on Tuesday opted out from bidding for the 2034 football World Cup, making Saudi Arabia the favorite to host the World Cup.

Football Association of Australia pulled out on the bid on the 31st October 2023 deadline immediately after the Asian Football Confederation threw its weight behind Saudi Arabia.

Football Australia in a statement said: “We have explored the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and — having taken all factors into consideration — we reached the conclusion not to do so for the 2034 competition.”

Saudi Arabia wants to turn their kingdom into a global sports powerhouse, hence, their ambition to host the 2034 men’s World Cup is one of the major steps.
