Angry Customer Attempts To Set Bank Ablaze in Ogun

A man known as Sodirudeen Rufia has been arrested for attempting to set Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) building ablaze in Oke-Ilewo Area of Abeokuta Ogun State Nigeria on Tuesday.

It was gathered that he decided to raze the banking hall after several complaints to the bank in an attempt to recover the sum of N500,000 that was deducted from his account the bank has been paying deaf ears to his complaint.

We learned that he was advised by the area commander, to allow the bank to follow its method of finding out how the money went missing and proceed in recovering it.

However, the matter became worse after the bank told him that he had been scammed of the said amount.

Nevertheless, after he received such shocking news from the bank official, he became mad at them, Rufai went back home gathered petrol and went back to the bank, he began to sprinkle the petrol on the banking hall with the intention to set it a blaze.

As the drama was unfolding, some customers within the banking hall began to run for their safety, while the bank security and other able-bodied men wrestled Rufai to the ground before he could make use of the lighter in his hand.

The Chief security officer (CSO) of the bank, Godwin James, handed Rufia over to the Ibara Police Division.

While Interrogating the suspect, he said that he took such action so as to attract the attention of all necessary authorities regarding what the bank did to his account.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday, the state police Public Relations Officer, Sp, Omolola Odutola, states that Rufai would be charged with attempted suicide and murder.

Odutola said, “He was fighting a noble cause in an ignoble way. He has a right to make a complaint that his money is missing. But the way he went about it was wrong. We are going to hold him for an attempt to commit suicide with murder because if he had succeeded, he would have killed himself and every other person in the bank.”
