Again: Gunmen Kill And Behead Ex-Lawmaker In Anambra State After Collecting Ransom
A former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who represented the Nnewi South constituency from 2003-2007, Hon. Nelson Achukwu has been reportedly killed by gunmen.
The physically challenged victim was kidnapped in the night around 10:15 pm in Ukpor in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state on the 9th of June about two weeks ago after which the police launched action to secure his freedom. Unfortunately, his corpse with his head already severed was what was found.
The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the sad incident. The body of the victim according to the police was recovered at the boundary area between Uke and Ukpor. His corpse was immediately buried by his family as it was already decomposing.
A source in the family disclosed that the family had paid the sum of N15 million to his abductors to secure his release before his dead body was found. The source also said the ex-lawmaker was first kidnapped some months ago by gunmen over allegations of providing military information but was later released when they found the allegations against him to be false. No one knows the reason for this his second abduction which led to his killing and beheading.
This is coming after er the perpetrators of a similar incident are yet to be caught. Recall that a lawmaker representing Aguata II constituency, Okechukwu Okoye was kidnapped by gunmen alongside his aide Cyril Chiegboka in May 2022. Later his beheaded body was found in Chisco park in Nnobi, also in Idemili South Local Government Area.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu has assured the people of Anambra that the perpetrators of these crimes would be brought to book.
