A Referee Presiding A Match In Kano Beaten By Football Extremists After Their Club Lost To An Away Team .
A referee presiding a match in Kano State was beaten by fans of the losing club .The referee (name not revealed) presiding the match between two Kano local teams , Shekaru Babes 1-1 DMD Kano, was beaten by football extremists after the home team lost with a goal to the away team . The home team’s fans who felt entitled to the home win , could not bear the defeat and alighted on the referee at Relief Market, Kano.
This is not the first time a referee is beaten especially when the home team is defeated . In 2019, The Nigeria Professional Football League gave one-year ban to a Nasarawa United’s Paul Seun Komolafe , for attacking match officials and igniting his club fans to attack the officials.
While the club’s manager , Aliyu Mohammed Hamzat , was given a lifetime ban over the same offence .
The Nigerian league body has decided to employ Police to curb violence in matches and those found guilty of the crime will be highly penalized. The harsh fines imposed on the perpetrators are to dissuade others who desire to resort to violence as a means of payback after a defeat.
