46 Nigerian Political Parties Backs Atiku and Obi Ticket
The coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has officially adopted the former Nigerian Vice President His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as their Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming 2019 General Election.
The Chairman of the Coalition and a one time Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola made this known on Wednesday during a meeting of the National Chairmen of the Parties involved in Abuja.
He recalled that during the inauguration of the committee that would steer the activities of the coalition, that they were saddled with the responsibility of jointly choosing a Presidential candidate for the Coalition.
He also said that
“In furtherance of this objective, therefore, the steering committee invited all political parties in the coalition to forward to us memoranda detailing their suggested ideas on how the candidate of the coalition should emerge and the criteria to use.
“The response was very impressive and rich. The steering committee, which as you all know, has every coalition party represented in it, distilled the suggestions, the aggregate of which was used to arrive at the result,”
Then he further listed the criteria used in the selection of the candidate which are
1. National acceptability of Candidate and Party
2. The strength of the structure of Candidate and Party across the country.
3. Competitiveness of the Candidate’s Party against the APC Candidate.
4. The financial strength of Candidate and Party.
The Peoples Democratic Party and 45 other Political Parties make up the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).
